Gentle Garden

Course: Prototyping for Experience Design

Prompt: Use Unity 3D to design a gamefied experience with a purpose.

Description: I created a game that is meant to help reduce anxiety for hospital patients by allowing them to plant their own gardens. They search the garden for seeds that each grow a different type of plant, plant them into the garden, and rearrange them to their liking.

Sketching

I first mapped out the different components that I wanted my game to have. This included the garden and flowers, seeds, interactions, UI elements, and audios.

Building

Using basic shapes and free 3D files from the Unity Hub, I built out my game.

Final

A final walkthrough testing out the prototype.

This was a very challenging yet rewarding project. Unity was a very difficult tool for me to grasp at first. This project taught me a lot of patience and problem solving skills, as I ran into several errors that I had to work through.

My game did not turn out perfectly, for example I wasn’t able to make my seeds double sided so they are only visible from one side. I also struggled a bit with instantiating the flowers, as it didn’t always work whenever I pressed the trigger. There are definitely a lot of improvements I would make to my game moving forward, but overall I am happy with what I was able to accomplish in such a short period of time.
